Classroom Update
Happy Spring! We are so very lucky to have such a beautiful campus that is absolutely blooming all over now that it is spring. On the first days of spring we took some nature walks to document the changes with iPad photos. We then uploaded the photos in to an APP called PicCollage. The result are some awesome lovely spring collages created by the children. Not only are the plants blooming, so are your children! We are going on a field trip to Crowe's Nest Farm on Thursday, April 19th! The cost is $6 per child and payment should be made in Skyward at your earliest convenience. Parents are welcome to join us. The cost for parents is $7 per person and is payable at the gate on the day of the field trip. In Reading Workshop we continue to add to our bank of reading strategies. We are also focusing on what it is to be an "avid reader." Our private reading time continues to be amazing at 15-20 minutes each day. When partner reading, each person gets to show off their skills. I will continue to send books 3-4 days a week. Here is the general progression of books each week: Monday- Reading Street folded book that highlights current/new sight words Tuesday- Books with short vowel word focus or sight word practice Wednesday and Thursday- Leveled books matched to your reader or high interest Friday-Free read at home over the weekend Our writing this week has included writing a book about Spring Break 2018. Each child used a planning page and has written 4 pages for his/her book, and added illustrations. You will get to see them a little later in the spring....more details coming soon. In math we continue to practice adding and subtracting numbers to 10 using objects, ten frames and numerals. We are also practicing counting on from a given number. We will continue to get more accurate and swifter. We are also learning to create number sentences from story problems/word problems. We are also getting more practice with coins, both naming the coin and the value. In science for the next few weeks we will learn more about plants and seeds. If anyone would like to donate some small bedding plants for the garden outside our window, we would happily accept them! Thanks for all the support! Best, Joan Hester Joan Hester, M.Ed.
